Nautilus and Aquanaut: the evolution of the sporting style of Patek Philippe watches

Patek Philippe has revolutionised luxury watchmaking with two iconic models, the Nautilus and the Aquanaut, which represent the evolution of sporting style in its most refined form. The Nautilus, launched in the 1970s, introduced a design inspired by the maritime world, while the Aquanaut, launched over twenty years later, offered a more contemporary version, with the "Tropical" pattern on both the dial and strap.

Launched in 1976 and created by the iconic designer Gérald Genta, the Patek Philippe Nautilus collection revolutionised the world of luxury watchmaking with its bold design inspired by the portholes of sea hatches. The Nautilus has gradually established itself as one of the world's most coveted watches.

Introduced in 1997, the Patek Philippe Aquanaut features a modern design. Its bevelled case recalls that of the Nautilus, but with a more contemporary approach. Mounted on a "Tropical" composite strap, resistant to extreme conditions, the Patek Philippe Aquanaut quickly won over all watch enthusiasts.

Complications and Grand Complications: the art of mechanics by Patek Philippe

The Patek Philippe Complications and Grand Complications collections embody mechanical perfection and the excellence of craftsmanship. Both represent the pursuit and integration of advanced functions into watches that combine elegance and technical complexity, with the Grand Complications taking this concept to the next level.

The Complications collection by Patek Philippe represents the ideal union of timeless elegance and technical innovation. These watches are equipped with advanced functions that go far beyond simply telling the time, all encased in a refined design that makes them genuine works of art. Each model is characterised by impeccable finishing, such as the Côtes de Genève and theanglage, which testify to the craftsmanship of Patek Philippe.

The Grand Complication collection is distinguished by its extraordinary complexity and the integration of numerous complications in a single timepiece. With a superior level of mechanical engineering, it offers functions such as the minute repeater or astronomical complications that require years of development and unparalleled craftsmanship. An iconic watch from the grand complication line is the Patek Philippe Grand Complications Perpetual Calendar Retrograde (ref. 5160/500R-001) with perpetual retrograde calendar that displays the date taking into account months and leap years without the need for adjustments until 2100. It also includes a retrograde hand for the day of the week and a moon phase display that needs no correction for 122 years. Each carefully crafted model reflects the excellence of the Patek Philippe manufacturing.

The history of Patek Philippe's watchmaking excellence

Patek Philippe, founded in 1851 by Antoine Norbert de Patek and Adrien Philippe, represents the pinnacle in Swiss watchmaking excellence. Since its origins, the brand has set itself apart through its dedication to craftsmanship and innovation. Over the years, Patek Philippe has continued to improve its watches with sophisticated complications and iconic models, creating timepieces that are not mere accessories, but true symbols of timeless elegance and perfection.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Patek Philippe's history is its pioneering commitment to advanced and innovative complications. The company has filed more than one hundred patents, many of which have helped revolutionise the world of watchmaking by focusing on the development of calibres.

In 1933, the brand created what was then considered the most complicated watch in the world: the Patek Philippe Supercomplication, commissioned by the banker Henry Graves. This masterpiece contained no less than 24 complications, including the perpetual calendar, celestial chart, age and phases of the moon and chronograph, marking an extraordinary milestone for watchmaking. The supercomplication ranks as one of the 5 most expensive watches ever auctioned.

The Patek Philippe Seal

In 2009, Patek Philippe introduced the Patek Philippe Seal, an exclusive quality mark highlighting the excellence of the company's watches, usually engraved on the watch movement. This exclusive certification was created to replace the Geneva Seal, with the aim of further raising quality standards by guaranteeing meticulous control over every aspect of the watch, both aesthetic and technical.

The Patek Philippe Seal is a dynamic certification open to future developments and technical advances. Patek Philippe continues to integrate new knowledge and distinctive features related to the manufacturing and maintenance of its watches, while upholding high quality standards.

Each Patek Philippe watch collection embodies a heritage of technique and tradition handed down through generations. The Swiss watchmaker has masterfully blended classic elegance with the most advanced innovations, producing watches that are appreciated by collectors and connoisseurs the world over.
