Wyler Vetta Watches
The History of Wyler Vetta Watches
Wyler Vetta embodies character and personality, drawing the finest qualities from different worlds, at the crossroads of Italian style and Swiss precision. In 1923, Swiss watchmaker Paul Wyler founded Wyler SA and, in 1924, produced the first Wyler wristwatches. In 1927, Wyler revolutionised the watchmaking industry with a groundbreaking technical innovation, inventing and patenting the Incaflex balance wheel. This shock-absorbing system, integrated into the heart of the movement and composed of two curved elastic arms capable of absorbing impacts, brought a new level of robustness to the watch mechanism, making it suitable even for sporting use.
In the 1930s, Italian entrepreneur Innocente Binda recognised the potential of this technology, introducing the timepieces to the Italian market and encouraging Paul Wyler to refine the case designs to better suit Italian aesthetic preferences. Through this collaboration, Binda added the name "Vetta" to the original brand.
To demonstrate the exceptional resistance of the Incaflex balance wheel, the company organised public extreme tests in the presence of a notary: in 1931, 1956, and 1962, Wyler Vetta watches were dropped respectively from the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Space Needle in Seattle. In each case, the watches continued to function perfectly after impact.
Wyler Vetta Men's Watches: The Most Iconic Models
The current Wyler Vetta collection is the synthesis of the brand's history. Each collection reinterprets the models of the 1960s and 1970s that shaped the legacy of Wyler Vetta. The Maison has always been dedicated to creating timepieces designed as reliable and robust instruments for everyday use, distinguished by a classic and understated elegance rooted in the great tradition of twentieth-century Italian design.
Jumbostar
An undisputed icon of the brand, the Jumbostar collection was created to meet the sporting demands of its era and is characterised by its aquatic spirit, extending from the Chrono models to professional diver versions. The collection guarantees 10 ATM water resistance across all models, while the Diver reaches depths of up to 200 metres. Enhanced by the multi-level dial construction and the internal rotating rehaut, the Jumbostar collection remains one of the most faithful reinterpretations of the vintage Wyler Vetta spirit. The robust case, pump pushers, rotating bezel, and highly legible dial recall the aesthetics of historic diving instruments.
Dynawind
The Dynawind collection embodies the technical research that has defined the brand's history, featuring clean lines and elegant proportions that make it both versatile and sophisticated. Available with black dials as well as distinctive military-green variations, this collection expresses a bold and contemporary aesthetic, further enriched by special editions dedicated to the Italian Army.
Héritage
As its name suggests, the Héritage collection represents the closest link to the Wyler Vetta tradition. Its proportions, vintage-inspired graphic elements, and attention to finishing evoke the understated elegance of watchmaking's golden age, reinterpreted through a contemporary sensibility.
Chronographe
The Chronographe collection expresses the most dynamic and technical side of Wyler Vetta, combining sporting functionality with refined design. The chronograph counters, harmoniously arranged on the dial, create visual depth and emphasise the instrumental nature of the timepiece, while the boldly designed case recalls the aesthetics of motorsport.
Wyler Vetta Calibres and Movements
Contemporary Wyler Vetta watches are primarily equipped with Swiss automatic movements selected for their reliability and precision, in keeping with the brand's technical heritage. Three-hand models and divers such as the Jumbostar, Dynawind, and Héritage frequently feature the Sellita SW200-1 calibre, appreciated for its stable performance and ease of maintenance, while chronograph versions generally utilise the Sellita SW510, derived from the Valjoux 7750 architecture and engineered to deliver robustness and sporting performance.
